Viceroy Hands Plan To Leaders

Received Tuesday, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, June 2. The plan fpr a united India has been scrapped, says the British United Press New Delhl correspondent. Lord Mountbatten has handed the Indian leaders a plan based on a division of India, according tc very reliable quarters. The correspondent adds that the plan lays down the pro-c-edure for dividing the countrv. inc.ludiner a nartition of
Punjab and Bengal and the appointment of a boundary commission. The coAference at the Viceroy's house between Lord Mountbatten and the seven Indian leaders was adjourned after a two-hour session, says Reuter's New Delhi correspondent. It is believed they will meet again later today, Asked after the adjournment whether he hacl got Pak'istan, Mr. Jinnah did not reply. Mr. Jinnah did not leave the Viceroy's house until 20 minutes after the other leaders. Mr. Gandhi earlier went to the Viceroy's house in reply to an urgent summons. A communique issned after today 's talks stated tliat the Viceroy gave the leaders a full account of his discussions hoth in India -and England which leu to tha formulation of the British G-ov-ernment's plan and the arguments •wliich resulted in its adoption. The communique added that Lord Mounibatten will hroadcast at 1330 G.M.T on Tuesday after wliich the text of the British announcement will he read ovex the radio. The talks with tiie Indian leaders will he resumed tomorrow morning. Messrs Nehru, Jinnah and Baldev Singh will hroadcast after the an nouncement.
