Personal Mr. Maclntosh, of Ohingaiti, was i weekend visitor to Shannon. Mr. 4. Rcgers, of Wellington, spent the weekend at Shannon as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G. Fitzgerald, Plimmer Terrace. Mrs. Ward, of the local school teaching staff, returned _ at the weekend from a vacation in Blenheim. Mr. J. Calder, headmaster of the Opiki School, has returned to Shannon after spending the school holidays at Napier. Mr. and .Mrs. R. S. Downes, Vogel Street, are. home again after spending a motor tour in the Hawke's Bay, Rotorua and Taranaki distriets. Miss Betty Roach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roach, Stout Street, who has been on the teaching staff at the Dannevirke School, left on Sunday evening on transfer to Auckland. Mr. Ian Roberts and Miss Joyce Roberts, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Roberts, Tokomaru Valley Road, returned to Christchurch late last week. Both are training for the teaching profession, Mr. Roberts specialising in agricultural subjects necessitating \ considerable ' part of his time being' spent at Lincoln College. Another local young lady who has been transferred to Auckland, and who left on Sunday evening, is Miss N. Moynihan. Miss Moynihan has been on the staff of the Local branch of the Bank of New Zealand for a number of years. Miss Billie Peach has now filled the vacancy at the local bank caused by Miss Moynihan's transfer. Foxton Races Popular For many years "the Foxton Racing Club's fixture has been a popular outing for the Shannon public, and again on Saturday many locals were Foxton bound. The bus which ran carrled a capacity load, as did the many private cars which made the trip. Some local punters were on "good things," while the great majority were those whose fancies were among the also starteds.
