AUCKLAND, May 25. Producing out of his already superior golf equipment two miiacle shots to the eighteenth green in both his semi-final and-iinai matehes, B. M. Silk, of Wam ganui, established himself as the out•staiiding player of the £750 Victory .Golf Tournament at Titirangi on Saturday by winning the amateur ehampionahip by one hole from D. L. Woon, of Christchurch. ... _ Silk in the ' morning defeated R. ;"jEL Glading, the New Zealand open champion with a run of tliree birdies at the 16th, 17th and 18th holes. In the afternoon he seored birdies at the 17 tb and 18th holes to win from Woon after be; ihg- on the losing end of the mateh for most of the play. James Galloway, Whangarei profes sional, seored a merited and popular win in the professional championship iby defeating A. Murray, of Auckland, at the 20th green in the semi-final in the morning and W. Allbon, of Auckland, by 5 up and 4 in the afternoon. Galloway by his victory in the everit won £100. Portion of the gatlery of about 1000 which attended the finals followed the £50 cliallenge mateh between T. W. Wiglit., Dunedin professional, who with drew from matcli play because of the threatened strike by members of Pro fessional Golfers' Association, and A. J. Shaw. Shaw won the £40 made available to the winner but was takeu to the 21st greeu in the longest matcli of the tournament before he succeeded. • Wight lost the first three holes in a nervous start. He did not come onto his game until the 10th hole but from then on he fought courageously in an attempt to win. Results are: — Professionals Semi-finals. J. Galloway (Whangarei) beat A Murray (Auckland) at the 20th. . W. Allbon (Auckland) beat A. E. Guy (Auckland) 2 and 1. Final Galloway beat Allbon 5 and 4. Amateurs. Semi-finals. B. M. Silk (Wanganui) beat R. II. Glading (Titirangi) 2 up. D. L. Woon (Christchurch) beat H. j). Brinsden (Titirangi) 4 and 3. Final | Silk beat Woon 1 up.
