DOWNES— SANDS WEDDING In ■ St. Mary's Anglican, Church, Levin, with- tall .vases of goiaen ehrysanthemums on the. altar jobies on the decorative woodWoiA dividing the chancel from the oody of the church ' and on the pew ends, the. wedding was solemuised late on- Saturuay mormng, May 10, of Ruby Iva Yvonne, twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Sands, Ballance Street, Shannon, and Raymond Stanley, elder son of Mr. and- Mrs. R. E.' Downes, also of Shannon. Canon Woodward offlciated and Mr. J. W. Hayfield jiayed delightful wedding music. Bscorted by her father, the bride and her two maids, dressed in traditional white, made a charming picuire of youthful grace as they proceeded up the aisie to join the waiting bridegroom and his attendants. The simply-cut bridal golvn of white sa^in was made with a train and a prettily rucked bodice, which was scalloped where it joined :the skirt. Saunfinished lace made the shallow yoke with its round neckline, xooped buttons trimmed the back of the bodice and the long pointed over wrist sleeves. An outstanding scalloped edged tiara of wax orange blossoms, worn pack from the f ace, made a delightful head-dress to hold in place the long net veil embroiderdd with silk flowers. A tripie string of pears was worn and she carried a bouquet of .cream chrysanthemum's, roses and freesias in shades of gold and .naidenhair fern. The bridesmaids were two friends, Misses Ngaire' and. Billie Peach, of Shannon, who wore long frocks of white suede ■ crepe, identically made with e-ircular skirts, cap sleeves and peplums, both of the latter featuring designs in sequins, the one frock in red and the other in blue. Sequins were also featured* o.n the white flowers oi the head-dresses, from which shoulder-length white veils-fell. A splash of vivid colour was given by their bouquets of red gerberas, carnations, cyclamen and blue delphiniums, tied with red ribbons. They wore elbowlength gloves, pearl ear-rings and dainty golden chains and pendants, the latter the gifts of the bridegroom. 1$ Y The best man was the bridegroom's only br other, Mr. Tom Downes, of Shannon, and the groomsman, the bride's only orother, Mr. Delwyn Sands. of Palmerston North. Mr. Selwyn Hyde was • the usher. On leaving he church a satin horseshoe was presented to the bride by her small neice", Audrey Bryson. At the reception, which was held at Williams' Tearoonns, Mrs. Sands, mother. of the-| bride, received her 60* guests wesiring a

iurgundy suit and matching hat, trimmed with veiling, brown accessories and a tasteful spray of haded carnations.- Mrs. Downes, he bridegroom's mother, assisted, vearing a navy costume, naVy and white ^accessories and a beautiful •,pray 0of dark red roses. The toasts were honoured in the usual way, Canon Woodv/ard carrying out the duties of toastmaster, with Mr. J. T. Bovis at the piano. Reference was made to the bridegroom's war service, having served .verseas for four years, and also to the bride's, she having served n the WAAC'S for almost four years and attained the rank of cornoral. Pride of place on the oridal table was -given to the 'hree-tiered cake, iced and decorated in cream and gold, this being duly cut by the bride, after which' several aptly worded telegrams were read by the best man. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon in northern , districts, the bride wore a rose coloured woollen suit, navy toque trimmed with feathers and veiling apd navy acces-. sories, and also a fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom. Many beautiful gifts, including cheques, were - received by the lappy couple, to be used in the new home which they intend to build in Shannon. Relatives of the bride. who came from a distance for the wedding were Mrs. C. Jones (Pukerua Bay) and Mrs. . Alice Taylor (Pahautanui) , both aunts; Mrs. Murphy (Plimmerton) , Mrs. ' H. Harris (Lower Hutt) , Mr. ana Mrs. Leith Taylor and ,Mr.,., and Mrs. David Stuart ' (Pahautanui') , cousins, and of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. -L. Ennis (aunt) , -Mrs. R. McCullough and Mr. arid Mrs. L. Waghorn (cousins), all of Tokomaru.
