RETURNED SERVICEMEN MEET

The usual monthly meeting of the Shannon, braneh of. the Returned Services' Association was presided • over by Mr. J. Ritchie (president) in Laurvig's Hall recently. Those ■ present were Messrs. C. Guerin, E. J. Gunnmg (secretary) , V. J. Bateman, F. O. ' Burtt, N. F. Calleson, F. C. Cole, R. Hook, R. Higgott, J. Kenny, R. M. Lange, B. Moynihan E .E. Morris, D. Purcell, R. Quinla'n, J. Reid, J. Sinclair, S. Spencer, O. Tippler and J. Griffiths. The secretary reported that 5 the roll membership now stood at 234, being made up of 189 Shannon and 45 Tokomaru members. Financial membership stood at 229. The secretary advised that subscriptions were coming to hand fairly well, but there were one or two who seemed to overlook their payments and reminders were being sent out. Mr. Q-uianing advised that the annual subscription to Review amounted to £27 18s 3d. The following members were transferred into the Shannon branch: Messrs. K. Kopua from Greymouth to Tokomaru subbranch, V. F. Olsen from Palmerston North, C. L. Vile from Palmerston North, F. J. Brice from Otaki and L. D. Murphy from Palnerston to Tokomaru sub-branch. Correspondence was received i from the Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes) advising of the meeting to be held in the Renown Theatre on Thursday, May 29, to discuss *-.he war memorial hall and rest rooms for Shannon. A discussion took place in connection with the possible purchase of a building at- Whitanui for removal -to Shannon as an R.S.A. :lub. The secretary has recently received a letter from the War Assets Realisation Board advising that as the building is required for rehabilitation purposes, it cannot be made avaiiable to the R.S.A. The presideht of the Women's Section (Mrs. C. Guerin) addressed the meeting on a proposed get together scheme for both organisations. The president (Mr. Rit•diie) suggested that the Women's Section address R.S.A. members vhen all R.S.A. business- was- completed. The ladies were the hostesses for the usual supper arrangements.
