The second woinan to obtain her pilot's licence at the Middie Districts Aero Club, Palmerston North, since tne war was a 19-year-old girl from Terrace End, Miss Sheila Murphy. The chi'ef instructor to the club, Wing Commander D. W. Morrjsh, A.F.O., saiu that Miss Murphy 's passing of the linai test for her licence was remarkable for -coolness and a sound knowledge of wnar to do in dift'erent sets of difficuit eir••umstances. . Her 'test involved taking off^ flymg about the Palmerston North Airport and landiug to the satisfaetion of ihe examiner, but on this occasiou her ta.sK was complicated by the fact that several commercial pianes of National Airways also vvished to land at the same time as she was taking off and landing. In avoidirig getting mixed up with the large passenger pianes she liad shown commendable initiative and heady tiying sense. The first woinan pilot to obtain her licence after the war at the club was Miss M. M. G-ale, also of Palmerston North. Both women ,vv'ere completely trained at the Middie Districts Aero Club.
