SUCCESSFUL OPENING The ' Shannon - Badminton Club held the official opening of its 19*7 season on - Thursday • evening, wnen, in spite of very unfavouraole weather conditio'ns, almost tJO players were present, .. The Ohau, Koputaroa and Manakau Ciuds were welL; represented. Tne local club officials had a trymg time in arrangmg game^ ior tne -large number pie&enc, tne courts being Qccupied to capacity all evening, while the table tennis in the supper room nelped to entertain the visitors.. Durmg the supper i'nterval, Mr. L. Buning, . president of tne ahannon Ciub, extended a weicome to the visitors a'nd thanked them for making tne ciub's openmg such a success. Mr. Burling made reference . to the lriendiy spirit which existed between the ciubs in the district, and hoped that many . more enjoyable matches would be played 1 during the season. The ladies of the cliib were responsioie for; the delightful supper arrangements. On Monaay .evening the championship laader was arranged .for uhe coming season and the first series of games ' was commenced. The committee desires that as many ladder jmatche be played as soon as possible to enable the selectors to prepare their teams for the opening of the Horowhenua competitions early in June. Owing to the hall being engaged on Thursday evening, there will be no play on that night.
