Considerable progress "has been made with the dragline operations near 'the mouth of the Otaki Riv.er. The huge dragline machine has worked down the northern. bank of the river for a distance of more than half a mile. • Piled to a height of 30ft. on the same bank is the metal. brought out of the river channel by the scoops. . The result of the operations of the dragline during the past few months has been the formation of a deep channel to convey the waters of the Otaki when flowmg normally or in full flood. At present the dragline is working to the west of the main highway bridge over the - Otaki River "and when a channel has been cleared to the riverfnouth the bedclearing machinery will be moved umtreamto the east of the bridge.
