TYRE CONTROL LIKELY TO BE LIFTED SOON

| WELLINGTON, May 19. I There are indications that the liftiiig j of the*control on tyres may be reeonp : mended to the Minister of Supply i shortly. The tyre position is not good j at present but it is expected to improve in the latter lialf of this vear. cllowever, the administration of the control has proved dihieult and many- traders 1 feel that ihose who strictly observe the regulations are at a disad.vantage when | others do not. Further, they feel j;hat | continued control leads to abuses and j even to crinies committed to obtain J : tyres for resale on the blaek market. j ] The tyre adviaory cominittee, the per1 manent committee which advises tho | Minister on the tyre pasition, is' be- ! lieved to consider that the time will shortly be opportune to lift the controls. The Dominion council of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade ' Asiociation is understood to have decided that the lifting of the control' is practicable. It now rests with the tyre advisory committee to meet again and decide ' on making a recommendation to the j Minister.
