The steamer, bound from Sydney to .Panama, rfipofted 4 the ketch 's position by wireless to ihe Flying Control Cehtre at Auclclahd whicli informed the authorities in Snva. The messagfe " from the Aristdtelis stat'ed that it was thoiight tlid Melanesia would be able to reaqli the Aua tralian eoast wijthout diffictiliy with ihe favourable sef' and - prevailing wirid. The ketch ha'd suflieient food for two weelcs and the weather in the area Was expected to be fine for several days. A number o'f units of the Uniteci States Navy were in " the viciniiy ancl Gbuld render assistance if necessary. Advice reeeived later in tlie day from Suva by ihe Flying Control Cfentre stated that the Melartesia's ownerS did not -eonsider 'the ketch to b6 in any imniediate danger.
