PLEASANT GIFT EVENING

MISS MANZ AND MR. MARSHALL HONOURED On Friday evening last Miss Isobel Manz and Mr. E. Marshall were accorded a gift evening in the Anglican Hall. This took the f orm of a social and dance and was arranged by friends of theyoung Couple, combined with All Saints' Vestry, of which Miss Manz is a member. The hall had been very prettily decorated with flowers and fern, and the stage particularly presented a charming background. There was a large attendanee of well-wishers and the gifts received were ma'ny and varied. After a delicious home-made supper had been served, Canon H. E. K. Fry spoke of the high esteem in which Miss Manz was held by all who knew her. She had been an active member of the church vestry, and for some years past had been in charge of the Sunday School at Otaki Railway. In asking Miss Manz to accept a set of cutlery from All Saints' Vestry and the Railway parishioners and the vicar,- wished both • Miss Manz and her fiancee every good wish for the > future in their married life. He very much regretted that they would be leaving the district, but Otaki's loss would . be Hawera's gain. , Miss Manz, in. responding, thanked all responsible for the gift and also for the evening arranged in their honour. She spoke of her great interest in the church and Sunday School, and the great pleasure iderived ifrqm her work there. Mr. Rule then spoke on behalf of .the friends who . had gathered to wish the couple weil. He also spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Manz and wished her and .her future husband many ' years .of happily married life. Musical honours followed and a beautiful shoulder spray was presented to. Miss Manz and bouquets to the two mothers, Mrs. Manz and Mrs. Marshall. After the parcels had been opened Mr. E. Marshall thanked everyone for the very happy evening they -had spent and . for their gifts, which were very much. appreciated. He spoke of-othei great kindness shown to them both, and assured all of a warm welcome should they call to see them in Hawera. Interspersing the dances, songs were rendered by Miss D. Avery, Miss H. Lea a'nd Mr. II. Jackson. Piano accordion solos were piayed oy Miss D. Taylor. These items were greatly enjoyed and warmly applauded. Dance niusic was jupplied by Mr. "Pat" Sharp. Mr. Arihur Marshall was a mostenergetic M.C. A very successful evening was brought to a close by the-singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem. The committee wish to thank all who helped so generously to make the evening such a happy one for. all concerned.
