RENEWAL OF WARRANTS OF FITNESS

DUNEDIN, May 14. Regulations recently issu--p by the Government requiring* tln . ~al of warrants of fitness, appear i ■ overlooked the limitations of tt>..ng stations in the matters of aecoiumodation and stalf and as a result a great deal of congestion has been eaused and the patienee of motorists who have been forced to wait in long queues, has been severely taxed. With a view to eliminating the two exceptionally bnsy periods that must occur in April and October of each year under the exi'sting system, the Automobile Association (Otago) • is making representations in the hope that the Government may be prev'ailed upon to introduce new regulations staggering the issue of licences so that the testing of cars may be spread over a longer period. One method by which this could be done, it is suggested, is by groupiog registration numbers and carrving out" tests according to these groups.
