RED GLARE JUMPS THE COUNTRY
OTAKI CANDIDATES IN SEMI-FINAL TRIALS The star item at Awapuni yesterday was probably the fihe exhibition of juiuping given by Red Glare over nine of the big faiices. Red Glare, which is to raee at Wanganui, was ridden by A. G. Waddell and he started at the brusu half way down the straight. Next in order were the logs and the sod wail and from there Red Glare went on to complete another round, finishing with the sod wall. Without providing any ' ' fireworks ' ' Red Glare gave a faultless display of jumping. Tuatara and Red Rocket. Another good sehooling bout was that of Tuatara (M. Andrews) and Rea Rocket (P. Gray). It was over ttie steeplechase fences out in the oval aua it was twice round. Red Rocket, on the inner, set the pace for the first round but when Tuatara warmed to his worn he went with Red Rocket and the pair
gave a sound display. Dualin (R. Howell) gave a sound display over the inside steeplechase fences, and Lanoma went once round over the big fences on the course proper. Flying Ace (A. G. Waddell) was sent along over six flights of hurdles and he jumped really well and with plenty ot pace on. Moderate, looking none the worse for his race at Woodville, was given a couple of rounds of half pace work with Nanook. Currency Lass was another let "off with a light task. Theiolyn (A. Waddell) was sent out to jump the hurdles. It took some time to get him started but when he did elect to go he jumped well. Monmouth Breaks Down. Tula (A. Waddell) and Monmoutli (N. Rouse) were companions over the hurdles and after negotiating. five flights brilliantly Monmouth broke down. He was very lame when he left the course. Airpier was another tov jump the hurdles. She rapped one or two but gave quite a sound display. Broiefield and Arco. Oue of the interesting trials on tiie flat was that of Arco (V. J. Sellars) and Broiefield (C. Eley). It was over a mife and they were going easily together at the finish after running the full distance in 1.50 1-5.- The flags were wide out on the course proper. Another gallop was that of Tremeilo (B. Boreham), Cramond Bay (R. Saunders) and Cinerous (D. A >v). it was over five furlongs and ■ pace was on from the start. Th . an the first two in 26 1-5 and they were on terms into the straight where Tremeilo and Cramond Bay dvow out to be a
couple of lengths in front of Cinerous at the post. They ran the five in 1.6 3-5, the last thTee in 40 2-5. Duteh Mary (R. Saunders) was kept to even time to the three and then ran home in 41 2-5 to round off a work out over seven furlongs. Speed King (Miss M. Feehan) ana Incision (V. J.. Sellars) were kept to even time over a mile, Persuade, Iooking well, to even time over seven, aiso Glen Urquhart, narrowly, beaten in the hurdles at Woodville, Emerge, and Roto Parera and Newel Post. Lord Bradbury was kept to 15 to the furlong over six and Pellmeer scampered home from the three in 40. Royal Duce and Kahuraponga sprinted half a mile in 55 3-5, the last three' in 41. V. J. Sellars will be riding at Otaki on Saturday £hd two of his niounts will be Royal Duce and' Mangatiti# Hakim Leaves for Wingatui: Hakim left Awapuni yesterday for Wingatui. ' He is to enter A-. E. Diaham 's stable. Tenor Royal, halfbrother to The Joker and Lord Nuffieia, came north last week. He is to be trained by W. J. MeDoiVeH, at Marton. B. Boreham will ride Cinerous, Salut d 'Amour, Persuade ' and Emerge at Otaki. W. L. Aitken has been engagea for Dualin and Master Raymond, J. Garth will be at Otaki and if Aristea starts he will Have the mount. N. Rouse has beeh engaged fof Cuisinier, L. 0. Clutterbuck fdr Beaulitha and Beguiie and S. Waddell for II Corona.
