RUMOUR OF COALITION

-Press Association

Nft Overtures Made, Says Mr, Hoiland

By Telegraph-

AUCKLAND^ May 13. No overtures have been made by the Government to the Opposition fbr the formation of ,,, a Coalition. If • any approadh were to be made it WOuld not be entertained by. the Opposition, These pdints in d stateihent' today by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Hol-1-and, officially . discoiiht persistent rumours that the Prime Minister had asked the Opposition to aceept a Coalition. "Sinee I have been in Auckland I have reoeived many ihquiries regarding the current - riimoitr that eertain negotiatlons for the formation of a Coalition have been in ptOgress/' said Mr. S. G. Hoiland. "1 suppose . it is iftevitable in a time of national - etisiS stich as We are fast approaching in the disturbed industrial field, that rumours'will circulate, Whether any of them ha#e been inspired from other ouarters I cannot say, but I am able to say that I have received no communications from the Government on the matter. "Quite frankly I very mueh doubt whether any approaches will be made, as Mr. Fraser is. well aware that we on our side, - will not tolerate any outside dictation or being pushed about by those who are out to wreck the cofintry, Our opponents know full well we will have nothing whatever to do with Socialism or Communisih, except to defeat them, ,and it would be expecting too much. of our opponents for them to abandon their Communistic Supporters. The welf'are of the country muSt always be the parattiount consideration, but our political philosophy, differs so greatly from their's that I feel bound to say publiely that if any suggestion for a Coalition were to be made, it would not be entertained by us. I think the same applies to our opponents/*
