Mrs. Ward, of the local school staff, is spending her holidays at. Blenheim. Miss Betty Roach is spending the school vacation. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roach, Stout Street. Mr. and Mrs. H. Stern and family, of Buckley, left today on a motor tour of the north, which will take them as far as Auckland. * Mrs. Noel Retter returned home on Saturday, after being an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. Social Security Benelits Social security benefits and pensions will be paid out at the Shannon Post Office on the following dates: — Age benefits, 21st; •widows, invalids, miners and orphans, 22nd; war, 23rd; war veterans, 30th. Football Success The local third grade football team had the distinction of defeating the College A team at LCvin on Saturday by 5 points to nil. This is the first occasion for fhree years that the. College A team has been defeated.
