Despite attempts to bolster Ihe city's defences, the Communists captured Eenyang on the railway 50 miles to the southwest. Taiyuan is reported to be crammed with 100,000 destitute refugees from the battle areas. The Government claimed further successes in Eastern Bhantung where lts forces are advancing on Chuhsien and Jshui which are important Communist st rongholds.
