Received Bundav, 9 p.m. NANKING, Mav 11. Tlie Government today cdaimed oue of tlie Ohina war's most crusliing viclories by the recapture of Laixvu, Yenclunig and Tuzukou - in Bliantung Province. A spokesman, describing ttie victory as the turning point in tne ligliting in .Shantung, said the Communist tlireat to the western half oi the province had been eliniinated. The Coniinunist radio reported an important Red victory in Sliensi Province by the recapture of Suieth 84 miles northeastward of Yenan. Government troops captured Suiteh on May 5. Chine.se Press reports sny the Government has throivn niore than 100 jilanes into the battle in an attempt to sto|) the Communist drive on the Shansi capital, Taiyuan. Despite attempts to bolster Ihe city's defences, the Communists captured Eenyang on the railway 50 miles to the southwest. Taiyuan is reported to be crammed with 100,000 destitute refugees from the battle areas. The Government claimed further successes in Eastern Bhantung where lts forces are advancing on Chuhsien and Jshui which are important Communist st rongholds.
