WOMEN'S DIVISION
SHANNON BRANCH'S ANNUAL MEETING Mrs. C. Guerin presided over the annual meeting of the Shannon branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers last week. The following were present: Mesdames K. Thomson (secretary), L. H. Best, A. R. Mills, A. E. Burling, E. Chester, E. Moore, J. A. Easton, W. H. Smith, K. Mitchell, R. H. Charter, U. Dujany and Miss Gface Smith. The secretary was directed to write a letter of sympathy to Mrs. S. H. Roberts in the anxious time she was experiencing due to the recent accident which befell her husband. A discussion took place on the making of a contribution to the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade carnival funds. It was resolved that as two of the division's young members (Misses G. Smith and J. Roberts) were entrants in the popularity contest in connection with the carnival, a donation of £1 ls to each be made to assist them in their efforts. The balance sheet disclosed that the finances were in a healthy position. In reviewing the past year, the president remarked that it had been a most successful one as also had been the two flower shows held. Housekeeping cases had been filled and one sick mother sent to the rest home as the guest of the division. Other mothers in need of a rest had gone to "Kianga Moe," and were loud in their praise of the attention rec.eived while there. In concluding her report, Mrs. Guerin, who was retiring from the office of president and not seeking reelectiorn, extended her thanks to members for their co-operation and to the secretary, Mrs. Thomson,' for the wonderful help she had been to her in many ways. - On taking the chair for the election of officers, Mrs. J. A. Easton thanked Mrs. Guerin for the time she had given and the trouble she had gone to in the interests of the division. She had worked untiringly and the members appreciated all that she had done. Mrs. L. H. Best endorsed all that had been said. and Mrs.
A. R. Mills added her thanks and appreciation. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President: Mrs. L. H. Best; vicepresidents: Mesdames K. Thomson, R. H. ,.Charter and U. Dujany; secretary and treasurer: Mrs. C. Guerin; delegates to tlie executive, Mesdames Guerin and Thomson; advisory members: Mrs. Easton; housekeeping secretary: Mrs. Guerin. In passing it was mentioned that the first president and secretary when the division was formed locally 14 years ago were holding the same positions for this year. .' A reminder was given that on April 30 the ladies were invited to accompany their hugbands to a field day at Massey College. The competitions for the day resulted as follows: Bowl of African . marigolds, Mrs. A. R. Mills; bottle of pickles, Mrs. Mills; duster bag, Mrs. Guerin and Mrs. Mills 1 (equal) .
