CIVIC THEATRE
SATURDAY AND MONDAY "The Corn is Green," starring Bette Davis and John Dall, adheres faithfully to the spirit of Evelyn William's famous stage play. A young Welsh coal miner's ambition to study and write, and the burning enthusiasm of his schoolmistress are Interpreted with conviction and drama by John Dall and Bette Davis. With them are blended more tangible events — the lad's entanglement with a spiteful village girl (Joan Lorring) enrolment of the local squire (Nigel Brucej, and the muted hostility of the miners. Singing is a feature of village life, and the film makes the rnost of the locale in this respect.
