BADMINTON CLUBS OPEN

— OHAU AND KOPUTAROA Two of the clubs i*n the Horowhenua Badmiflton Asspciation's district opened their 1947 seasons recently. They were the Ohau and .Koputaroa Clubs. . The Ohau Hall was well filled vith players from. all over the district for the oflicial opening of the Ohau Club, and a most enjoyable evening , was spent on the courts. Following the supper, which was arranged by the. lady members, Mr. J. Bowli'ng stated that he was very pleased to see such a large gathering, and extended a welcome ' to the visitors from Shannon, Manakau and Koputaroa. In declaring the 1947 season open, Mr. Bowling mentioned that the clubs of the district were fortunate in having the newly-formed association functioning this season, and it would be arranging all th'e inter-club matches. Mr. Bowling then called on Mrs. Benning to serve the first shuttle of the season. On Monday evening there was a similarly large gathering for the opening- of the Koputaroa Club's season. Visitors were present from Ohau, Manakau and Shannon. Here again. the delightful supper was in the hands of the lady members, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Inter-club competition matches have been arranged for the coming season by the Horowhenua Badminton Association and will commen.ce in June, when Shannon will play Ohau, at Shannon, and Manakau will play Koputaroa, at Manakau, in the "A" grade section. In the "B" grade section the matches will. be the same, °with the exception that they will be played at Ohau and Koputaroa. Ten days have been allowed in which to ' play the games to enable hall arrangements to be finalised by the home clubs.
