TRANSIT HOUSES FOR P. & T. EMPLOYEES
DUNEDIN, May 7. ,An example of how the Post and Telegraph Department is assisting the housing situation, is afforded by its decision to proceed with a honsing scheme at 8t. Kilda. This is part of the department 's Dominion wide scheme of transit housing for -its. home-. less offieers and ari official stated today that preparations were in train to con vert five buildings" at the Central Battery camp into housing units, each containing two residential flats. It is hoped to house 10 families and each flat^ will i>e self-contaiued. One unit is al readv occupied and work will soon be undertaken to make additional premises ready. The transit housing seheme for offieers of. the Post and Telegraph Department originated at Hamilton and the Department has extended it throughout the Dominion. The value of such a seheme is readily appreciated in the department which of necessity must arrange transfers and in addition to easing the staffing pogition, it has he effect of directiy assisting the housing situation,
