McTaggart and child , are at present 0n holiday m ( Otaki. Miss Podjursky, of Foiton, has joined the nursing staff at the Otaki Maternity Hospital. Miss "Pip" Phillips, late of Otaki, is a patient in the Wanganui Hospital. Mr. W. Hurrell is again a patient in the Palmerston, North Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. H. Knox, who have been celebrating their golden wedding have returned to their home. Candles Scarce Candies m otaki are scarce, and some storekeepers are rationing them to one per week to their customers. Cocoa in Schools The usuai practice of providing hot cocoa for school children carrying their lunches will be recommenced at the Foxton School at the beginmng of next term. Road Improvements It is stated that another sawmill is to be erected at Akatarawa. In places the main road has been greatly improved and a start has been made to bitumen the whole length. A good deal of the roading nas already received a good coating of bitumen. Letter from Palestine A letter from Gordon, son of Mr.- and Mrs. N. C. Davidson, of Te Horo, writing from Palestine, says that he is now at C.I.D. headquarters. The work was dift'erent to what he had been accustomed to, but he was doing quite alright. The cost of living; he states, is still going up, and by no means decreasing in price. The weather had been warm. At time of writing Gordon was in good health. Schools' Music Festival Schools oi the souohern Horowhtnua will shortly present a music festival in Otaki. A considerable amount of work is being done in consolidating the choirs of chosen voices, and a, ..great'treat is-in, ,st orei fpy-the pub-j lic who will hear for the first time the children of their own district rendering selected pieces in a most cultured manner. Miss C. Nation, specialist in school music, will conduct the festival, and is giving valuabla assistance to the mdividual schools participating. it is anticipated that over 2UU children wiii form the massed i choir.
