MINE TRAGEDY IN YORKSHIRE
NINE KILLED ; TWENTY INJURED Receivecl Thursday, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, May 7. Nine men lost their lives in an explosion at the Barnsley colliery, Yorkshire, today. Twenty men suffering from burns were taken to hospital. It is believed that the explosion was caused by the fusing of an electric cable. Fumes hamnered the rescue work of four4 teams, and the last bodv was not recovered until four hours after the exnlosion. The miners in the pit at the time of the explosion said that there was a vivid flash, which swept the 700foot deep shaft.
