Invitation To Be Extended To Higher Committee

Received Thursday, 11.15 a.m. NEW YORK, May 7. - Dr. Charles Malik (Syria), spokesman for ihe Arab League,. stated beiore today's session of the Political Committee ' that the Arab' Higher Committee of Palestine ■* 'would adhere to its decision to boycott the United Nations debates on Palestme, but individual Arab countries would continue 10 participate. He added that Ihe Arab nation was vitally interested in the establishment of an inquiry commission. The Political Committee decided to call a plenary session of the General Assembly formally to offer the Arab Higher Committee an invitation to appear. - / Before the Political Committee session opened the chairman, Mr. Lester ' Pearson (Canada) announced that he had informed the Higher Committee of the Political Committee's decision to give it a hearing, and asked the Higher Committee to reconsider its withdrawal of the appiication for a hearing. Earlier the Political Committee, faced with the Arab States' threat to boycott the United Nations' Palestine debate, passed a resolution sponsored by the United States and the Argentine giving the Jewish Agency and the Arab Higher Committee an equal opportunity to appear before the committee. The committee had received a cable from the Arab Higher Committee withdrawing its request for a hearing on the ground that the Assembly had discriminated against it.
