MASTERTON LICENSING POLL

WELLINGTON, May 6. A leaflet has beeni prepared by the Goyernment setting out the issues involved in the polls to be held in the Masterton no-licence district on May 28, following the adoption of liquor ■ restoration at the general v eleetion m November^ It is now in the hands of the printer and will be distributed to households in the district. The Minister of Justice, Hon» H. G. E. Mason, explained this evening that the leaflet Svould alsd give re'asons why the polls were required and. explain who were entitled to vote. .The leaflet made it clear that the proposals on which the electors would vote ; would be trust -or trusts to be eleeted by the direct vote of the people concerned subjeet to' a condition that if substantial sums were borrowed from the Government, that would entitle the Government to ue represented on the trust body while the loan money - was outstanding. Thc lieensing trust in Invercargill is constituted largely by representativcs of local bodies in the district and Government representatives. For the purpose of the polls to be .talcen on May 28, the Masterton no-licence district has been divided into three geographical areas — Akitio area, Eketahuna area and southern area comprising the town of Masterton and adjaeent localities. Voting in each individual area will be regarded separately from the -voting in the others.
