COMMERCIAL ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the Otaki Commercial Association was held in the Druids' Hall on Monday night- the president, Mr. W. McBeth, presiding. Several apologies were received from members unable to attend. ' The secretary, Mr. J. D. Avery submitted his statement of accounts. This showed the balance brought forward to be £26 6s 7d. Among the receipts were subscriptions £41, and donations £3 10s, while an the expenditure side the main items were salary £15, — refund on account of advance £25, motor _eamp site (trees and'labour) £14 6s 6d, and I printing, advertising, stationery and postage £11 17s 5d, leaving a balance of £2 11s 8d. I The election of officers resulted: —President: Mr. W. McBeth; lcommittee: Mrs.- Wilson, Messrs. H. Taylor, J. Mason, E. Cook, A. W. Buxton, L. G. Gimblett, H. Nicolson, S. W. Harvey, R. Eaton, - L. Moss, H. B. Edhouse,1 H. G. Wylie, J. E. Southgate, L. G. Lowry and |M. P. Newdick; secretary: Mr. J. j D. Avery (re-elected) ; auditor: j Mr. H. Nicolson (re-elected) ." It ! 'was hoped that all mfembers of 1 the committee would show an ! interest in the association and ! attend meetings. Eulogistic refer- | ence was made to the work of the i president, Mr. McBeth. It Was pointed out that business people with one exception were unanimous on the proposed closIng hours. Correspondence was • read from the Horowhenua Power Board stating, in answer to a letter from the association, that the best was being done to siiit all in the imposition of power restrictians. It w^s agreed that the camping site should be fenced and adjacent land secured, the latter matter being left to the chairman to attend to. • Enquiries are to be made as to the ownership of the land, it "being agreed that the strip of land adjoining the river should be 'secured if possible. _ . It was agreed that the planting of trees should be done on the camp site next month, and that suitable trees be secured. It was pointed out that there was a possibility of the undergrowth and lupins choki'ng the trees, and a suggestion that a few head of sheep be secured was supported, it being' agreed that they would help to keep down the Undergrowth, 4 , J _ i ^
