By Telegrapn—
Received Wednesday, 11.30 a.m. LONDON, May 7. "I have had ino immediate Invitatio'n," amswered the Minister of Food, Mr. John Strachey, at ( sy Press conference when he was asked whether there was any chance of his going ta Australia or New Zealand to investigate the possibilities of increasing their food supplies to Britain. Mr. Strachey added: "I would like to- go to the southern Dominions very much indeed, but when ever I may go there I would nat. like it suggested that any such visit was a criticism of what is being done there. If I were abit to go there it would be entirely in a spirit of possibly advising 3 method by which we could increase food production, to our mutual benefit." Mr. Strachey said he thought the meat shortage would be at its ' worst in the second half of this year. He added, regarding fruit imports from New Zealand, that there were certain seasons of the year when there were limits to refrigerated tonnage to carry produce from the southern Dominions, and if Britain had to clioose between meat and' fruit she must choose meat. "The slow tum around of ships in the southern Dominions has been a great difficulty."
