H. Hudson, immediately : quashed this suggestion. The Take, he said, was govemed by a special act of its own, namely the Horowhenua Lake Act of . 1905, which provides that no person will- be al'lowed toshoot o-r destroy birds, or game oi any kind on the iake, or . within the area of it. The penalty: Three months imprisonment or a £50 fine. The Public W orks Homaim and National Parks Aet oi 1928 also provides that it shall he an offence within a domain t6 shoot at -any bird' or animal' with any gun or other instrument, or wilfully take, destroy or injure any bird or animals or the nest or egg of any bird' in such areas. A perusal of records held in the Magistrate's Court, Levin, revealed that on May 28, 1929v two Maeris were charged with shooting -dueks en a bird sanctuary, to wit the ' Horowhenua Lake^ .
