SLASHER WENT THROUGH CAR WINDSCREEN LIKE BAYONET

Concussion and minor injuries were suifered by Jack Roberts, aged 19 years, of - Awahuri, when he was struek by a car while walking on the main road at Awahuri early last evening. Mr. Roberts was carrying a gorse slasher over his shoulder at the time and when the accident occurted the slasher went through the windscreen of the car like a bayonet. Fortunately the driver of the car, Mr. Henry Nelson Hendra, of Te Hoio, had rio passenger with him, the blade of the slasher passing right through the point where a front seat passenger would have been sitting. The force of the impact lifted Mr. Roberts high into the air and he fell heavily on to the bonnet of the car. The headlights, raaiator grill and windscreen of the car were smashed. Mr. Roberts was taken to Palmerston North Hjspital by ambulance. His condition last night was reported to oe satisfactory.
