TIMARU, April 30. Mr. A. F. Jones, the young amateur Timaru astronomer, has received advice of his election as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (London), On August 6, .1946, he diseovered the comet Jones and has been advised that he has been award.ed the Comet Medal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific for this discovery. Mr. Jones has reeentlv been interested in the comet Rondanina-Bester wliieh was found in South Africa two months ago. He believes he has seen the comet and. has reported his observations to the Cartci' Obsorvatory,
