GAS IN COAL MINE
GREYMOUTH, ApriJ 30. The Wallsend State ' eoal . mine war idle todav for the third day in succession because of an accumulation of gas in the return airway to one working section. It is nnderstood the management was of opinion this morning, when an examination revealed an accumulation of 14 per eent .of gas, that the mine was safe for work but the men, at a meeting, decided against working because of the dangev, Tomorrow is a holiday at Rtate mines for May Day but Wallsend miners are to observe Monday.
