WANGANELLA DISPUTE

EMPLOYERS ' TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT. ' ' * ' • - W E-LT.IN GTON, AprFKlOiy ' ' The employers ' attitude to tha disputes involving the AVanganella and Williaiu Gable and Company, Liinited, was expressed vesterflay afternoon in discussions with the Minister of Lab our (Mr. MeLagan) and this morning to the Direetor of Emplo.yment an-1 Labour (Mr. II. L. Boclcett), it wastated by the New Zealand Employers' Federation this afternoon. Nothing decisive had einerged from the discussions, it was eommented, bui the employers had emphasised that they were ready to eontinue on the Wanga nella tribunal as soon as the men re sumed work upon tlie liner, in aeeord anee witli the Government 's own re |uirements. Tt was eonsidered that the settlemem of the problem now rested witb the Government, and it was hoped thai Ihere would soon be an official an nouncement, or an indieation from the unions that work would be resumed There was no intention on the part of Ihe employers to eause'undue liaste, and it was realised that the Government would ueed to rnake a eareful examina tion of tlie issues involved. Kowever, should no decision be reaehed, it miglvt oe necessary for tlie employers, by next Monday possibly, to consider what should be done to resolve the problem. The paramount question was to have the Wanganella worked at the earliest possible moment.
