BADMINTON CONTROL

HOROWHENUA- ASSOCIATION , MEETS : - i . . *• The anhual general meeti'ng of the Horowhenua Badminton Association, was held at Mr. H. Ben-' ning's resld'e'hce, Ohau, on Monday evening. Those pjesent were Messrs. J. Bryant and B: Mather (Manakau) , H. Benni'ng' and J. Bowling (Ohau), V. E. Tlppler and T. S. Downes (Shannon) and R. Pemberton and K. Baker (Koputaroa). Mr. J. Bryant occupied the chair and said that he was pleased to see the same delegates representing their respective clubs again this season. He had every hope that the association would be a great benefit to the sport this season, both in the arranging of inter-club competition matches and also from the social side. Mr. Bryant extended thanks to members for their co-operation during the past season and called for nominations to fill the various offlces of the association. The officers elected were as follows: — Patron: Dr. S. J. Thompson; president: Mr. J. . Bryant (reelected) ; vice-president: Mr. H. Benning; secretary-treasurer: Mr. T. S. Downes (re-elected) ; auditor: Mr. G. Fitzgerald. A committee' of three, comprising Messrs. J. Bowling, -H. Benning" and K. Baker, was appointed as a selection committee to select teams to represent the association. A number of rules governing local' play were finalised. It was decided that each club be encouraged to adopt club colours, these to be registered with the association. It was agreed that the association's colours should be maroon and gold. Club opening nights for the coming season were approved as follows: — Ohau: Tuesday, April 29; Koputaroa: Monday, May 5; Manakau: Thursday, May 8; Shannon: Thursday, May 15. The club delegates advised that each of the four clubs would be entering A and B grade teams for the Horowhenua competitions and the draw for the A grade matches was arranged. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks tb Mr. Benning for the use of his home for the meeting and to the chairman.
