CHEST CRUSHED BY LOGS
WANGANUI, April 29. Cruslied boneatli two heavy logs which foll on hira from a stack about 12 fecl high, Drunk Edward Pickering, aged 61, yard foreman at the Wanganui Hash and Door Company's factory in Ridgway Street, received injuries from whicli he died shortly afterwards. Pickering, who is a married man with a wil'e and adult daughter, was engaged in directing seven men in the nnloading and stacking of the logs from a lorry. The logs were about 30 feet long and heavy and wero being staekecf by a liand operated crane. While the crane had a log in midair it swung ro ii lid and the log liit the stack with Gie resnlt that two logs rolled down on top of the foreman. The crane had to be used to lift them ofE liis hodv and he died shortly after, liis chest having been cruslied in.'
