RELATIONS OF KHYBER PASS WITH FUTURE INDIA
Received Wednesday, 10.45 a.m. PESHAWAR, April 29, ' The Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, addressing representatives' of the Afridi tribesmen in Khyber Pass today, said: "Your relationship with the future Ind'ia will be based on fresh agreements which you will be ealled upon to negotiate with the ippropriate authorities. The existIng agreements with Britain will be fhe basis of any new ones." It was the Viceroy's fir^t. public speech since taking office. The tribal leaders squatted on carpets in a shady grove to state their views. Their chief spokesman, Melir Abdul Latif, said that if Britain ieft India Khyber Pass should be returned to the Africi tribesmen.
