HOPE ABANDONED FOR FIRE TRAPPED MINERS
^ Eeceived Sundav, 7.30 p.m. OTTAWA, April 26. All hope is abandoned for the eleven men who have been trapped in the burning smoke-filled Malartic (Quebec; gold mine since Thursday. One hundred fire fighters and rescue workers have been battling with the inferno rouna the clock in the hope that the men were safely below the fire levei. One miner was killed and four eseaped when the fire broke out on Thursday. The fire is reported to have beeri eauseu , by a carelessly dropped cigarette.
