FIRST YEAR OF ACTIVITY
FEDERATED FARMERS' WORK SEEN IN RETROSPECT The annual general meeting of the Levin branch of Federated Farmers was held on Thursday •night, the president, Mr. C. E. C. Webb, presiding. The meeting was poorly attended, only 3.0 being present out of a membership of over 240. ' . " The president, in' the course of l^js annual report, said that the year just passed had been "the first that Federated Farmers had functioned as an organisation, with^ each farming section con, trollihg its own affairs. Mr. D. A. Stewart had been chairman of the meat and wool section, and Mr. S. Sloan chairman of the dairy section. During the year the pfovinces had been reorganised, changing over . dairy", and- - bank orders from the Farmers' Union to the federation, signing on new members (some ninety in the Levin branch), and collecting contributions to the defence fund. Mr. S. Timbs, of Wanganui, had given an address in the Century Hall on the meat export trade: with Great Hritain, emphasising the necessity of sending all possible meat to the Old Country. Several mechanical draining demonstrations had been. arranged by the federation at Massey College. These demonstrations were so well attended that they. had been repeated. Attendances at branch meetings had been disappointing, especially in view of the increased membership. During the year he had attended the monthly provincial executive meetings at Palmerston North, the provincial annual conference and the annual inter-provineial conference, held at Wanganui, last May. ; In conclusion, Mr. Webb mentioned the great assistance given by the secretary, Mr. J. E. Fullar- ! ton, and thanked all who had helped the affairs of the federation during the year. The balance sheet showed the financial position to be sound.
