1 Ija'I AJa U } April I • D Tliat this conferenee protests against the scandalous wasto of barley in the brewing of beer in view of the desperate neeil of many countries for all kinds of cereals, and asks the Government that the rationing of beer be imposed inimediately as in Great Britain," was a remit carried at the Dominion conference of the National Council of Women. Christchurch remits "that a protest be made to the Government against any increase in the facilities for drinkirig alcoholic liquors through the openin'g of liotel bars aftcr 6 p.m-., by any increase in charters for clubs, any fur ther'licences to tourist hotels, and any granting- of charters to . clubs. Ln no licenge districts, by the sale of " alcoholic liquors in restaurants and publie. works camps," and " that- a' protest be made agaiust a'ny proposal to increase the intervals between licensing polls"|o make necessary a 60 per eent. majority for the ca'rrving of proliibition to bring about corporate control of the liquor trade," were also .carried. Another remit carried was "that this conference views with concern tlie short sentences passed upon sexual perverts who have already served a term of detention and recommends that any person convicted of a sexual offence be examined by a medical board and if necessary be given medical and psychiatric treatment and placed under medical ' supervision until, in the board 's opinion, such' p'ferson can be discharged as cured. " The next Doniinion conference will be held at Auckland in Septeniber, 194.8.
