MANY WORKERS RESIGN

WELLINGTON, April 22. _ Large number of workers in the shops of the Wanganella repair contraetors, -Cable and Company, Ltd., began handing in their resignatiohs late this morning following the stopwork meeting involving those mefi who had actually been employed on the Wanganella. The situation developed irapidly as the, men began to rejturn singly and in groups from the Trades Hall meeting, and it is difficult to assess at this stage the result of the move. , One immediate elfect is likely to be an examination of the position of the union and employers' representatives on the Wanganella tribunal, which adjou'rned only yesterday afternoon until Monday morn-

i ing, and a eonsideration of the whole Wangariella repair project. Immediatelyafter the resignations began, Cable's representatives called a conference, which began early this affernoon, with the emergency executive of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, which recently took up the Wanganella dispute. In a brief announcemeut after the conference, the fedieration said it was nnderstood Ithat only one speaker addressed the meeting in the Trades Hall- and that later a resolution Was carried that the ^ men lould resign from Cable's. It is not yet known how many men were resigning. The fedefation Yvas giving prompt attention to the legal aspects I of the situation.
