Hunt Tomorrow Members of the Manawatu Hunt will meet tomorrow at Messrs. Taylor Bros.' property, Hautere. The throw-off is at noon. Golf Club Opening The Levin Golf Club will open its ne'w season tomorrow at the Cheslyn Rise links. The function commences at 1.30 p.m. and the club i'nvites all members, intending members and friends to be present. A Long-lived Pony Prince, a veteran pony owned by Mr. F. Wellington, of Tuna, Taranaki, possibly established a record in longevity. He died lasi week aged 42 years. For the past eight or ten years* he did nO: work but rested on his laurels. Prince was never shod, '**. - Grange Shipment' A large shipment of oranges is expected to arrive .at Auckland on Monday aboard thl Maui Pomare. Though the hulk will be allocated' to Auckland, it is. expected that part of the consignment will be distributed throughout the Wellington Province. Shingles for Roofing After . having covered the roof of the Church of the Sacred Heart : at Reefton for 70 years, totara shingles have stoc)d the weather well, and (except in .a few places) are in excellent condition; but they are now being stripped, and will be replaced by a new roof of white pine shingles. American Marriages Marriages between United States servicemen and New Zealand girls had been remarkable for the number which had been suecessful, said Dr. D'. E. McHenry, professor of political science at che University of California, speaking to the Welli'ngton Rotary Club yesterday. There was a much higher percentage of broken marriages among those contracted in the United States over .the same period', he cohtinued. - Donations to Scouts This week the Levin Scout Committee received a donation, of £10 from the staff and pupils oi .• Horowhenua College towards its fund 'to send three local scouts to the world jamboree. In addition Mr. Rex Mexted donated a turkey, which was auetioned at the Levin sale this week and brought 30S. This assistance is gratefully aclrnowledged, while the committee also expresses its appreciation to all those who have responded to the appeal. New Stamp Issue The remaining pictorial stamps in the current New Ziealand issues will be withdrawn from sale after business on April 30. The denomihations affected are 2d., 2-i-d., 4d., 5d., ^ 8d., 9d., 1/-, 2/-, 3/-. On- May I new King George VI stamps will be issued for tlle denominations 2d., 4d., 5d., 6d., 8d., 9d., 1/-, 2/-, and 3/-. With the i-d., ld., I^-d. and 3d., King George issues rfow in use these ^stamps will comprise a complete ser'ies of stamps showmg the i King's head.
