FIRE BOARD'S MEETING

The quarterly and annual meet.ngs of the Otaki Fire Board will oe held at the fire station on Wedciesday, April ?3, at 7 p.m. , 1

Being a, member of Parliament had been a great experience and Mr. Lowry thanked his friends I for their loyal support and in | many cases sacrifice. Mr. Lowry stated that he realised that he ! had many imperfettions, but in his-' wife he had a really good ; friend, who never flattered his : speeches by saying they were excellent or that he was' another Lord Beaconsfield. At the same ! time she was not slow in saying ; that he had rnade a poor job of a ispeech. By this means he had at all times kept his feet on earth. His wife had borne the heat and burden of the day, and had beer' .responsible for all his success. Mr. Lowry thanked his colleagues for recalling the arduous work of all night sittings, etc., in the later days of the present Government, but at the same tirrie the outcome was well worth the time and energy. rn thanking his friends he told them not to despair. If they read the right kind of literature and reasoned with the right type of men New Zealand would still remain the best country in the world. At all times he had been loyal to his party, loyal to ' his Prime Minister and loyal to his electors. There was digmity attached to labour and to a labour movement, and he had at all times endeavoured to attach dignity to the title M.P. At all times he had endeavoured tp please the people and do the just and uprigh thing. In -conclusion Mr. Lowry wished the country prosperity and all the people the best in the future. Ht asked Mr. Osborne to convey his best wishes to his colleagues for a successful session and his thanks for their kind messages. "All sucr cess to the Labour movement. May we live long and see grea'ter things, not only in New Zealand but throughout the world." Mr. Downes, on behalf of the Otaki L.R.C., presented Mr. and Mrs. Lowry with a cheque, again expressing best wishes for the future. Mr. Lowry suitably replied. Mr. Hansen, Mrs. ITesp and Roy Lester's orchestra provided ihe entertainment and music for the evening.
