Somerset Alaugham has plaend ai J Ihe disposal of the Society of Authors Playwrights aiul Gomposers, a trust fund suflicient to provide an nnnual £500 prize which will be awarded to young British writers of outstanding promise. The purpose of the award is to encourage young writers tO travel and acquaint themsc-lves with the nian ners and customs of foreign countries. Candidates for the award must lie undei 30 vears of age and British su hjet'ts b\ birth. Suceessful candidates tnust umlertake to spend tiot less than three montlis out side Bntain and devote the award to the expenses of travel. Alr. Alaugham asked the Society of Authors to appoint judges and the closing date for the lu'st entries has beeil fixed as Alay 30, 1947. Entries rhay take the form of poetrv, Iktion, ci'itieism, history, biography, belles lettres or philosojihy bu.t not drainatic work.
