GIANT LMR RUNS ON TO SHINGLE BANK IN FOG

Received Tuesday, 10.50 a.m. LONDON, April 14. The liher Queen Elizabeth ran agrouhd in fog on the Orambles shingle bank at the entrance to Southampton water, Calshot signal station said the liner had been aground since 4.30 p.m. and seven tugs were trying to refloat her. The Queen Elizabeth was due at Southampton at 5.50 p.m. with 2200 passengers and a crew of 1200 from New York. There was dense fog in The Solent and visibility this morning was nil. Other ships were delayed up to six hours before docking at Southampton. BATTLESHIP NELSON DAMAGfcD IN COLLISION ' v A hole three feet in diameter was made above the waterline in the hull of the batleship Nelson when the Nelson was involved in a slight collision with the submarine Sceptre in fog in Portland Harbour. The Nelson was secured to a buoy when the mishap occurred. The Sceptre buckled her bow plates. There were no casualties. The Sceptre, which has never been in the foreign service is known as "H.M.S. Stay at Home."
