GENE AUTRY BACK IN FILMS
Gene Autry, most celebrated, of all present' day cowbcy stars, will form his own independent producing unit and move over to Colum bia Pictures Corporation this month on ari exclusive contract to release four high budget pictures a year for two years with further 2xtensions in prospect. With Armand L. Schaefer, exeuutive producer of V7esterns for many years, Autry has organised Gene Autry Productions, which will oe given full use of Columbia's facilities, though- producing with, its own staff. The new company will seek topnotch stories for its series of big outdoor musicals, Autry coritfibut.ng the complete resources of his jw'n music organisation. The Autry . deal with Columbia brought . ;o a close several months of spirited competition among major studios. Autry will star in his own productions, so New Zealand Autry ians should in due course see their favourite back on the . screen again. •
