CHURCH OF ENGLAND GUILD

FIRST MEETING OF YEAR ' The opening meeting of the 1947-48 year of the Church of England Lgdies' Guild was attended by 18 members. Mrs. J. P. Allerby presided and the Rev. J. H. Datson was present. Mrs. G. W. Johnston (Buckley) was proposed as a new member. Mrs. Leng-Ward was appointed sick visitor for April and Mesdames R. H. Charter and LengWard fof the care of the church. An allocation of money was authorised to the vestry for carrying out necessary work in the parish. Mr. Datson spoke of the present difficulty in regard to the holding of services • at Shannon, and announced that on Sunday, April 20, harvest thanksgiving services would be held at 9 a.m. (Holy Communion) and 7.30 p.m. (Evensong) . Gifts of produce of all kinds sent in to the church would be given as usual to All Saints' Children's Home, Palmerston North, and the suggestion was made that suitable gifts of tinned foods be parcelled and sent to England. Afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames C. M. Cronquest and R. H. Charter, Durihg- the soeial hour competitions were held, the winners being Mrs. D. Jones and Mrs. E. Moore. • ' i i
