Kerosene Stoves
Two burner-type kerosene stoves have been installed in 37 State houses in the Hutt Vaffey. More thp.n 20 pf them are already ocpqpied by tenants only too'ready to use the stoves for . eooking and candles for lighting befqre the houses are conheoted with electricity reticuiation ltn.es. Except for ppwer connections the houses are eomplete *in every detail. The gtat'e Advances Cofpqration reported yesterday that but for the recent storm, which had cauged men to be diyerted to repair work, the power wquld have been avaii'able when. the houses were .completed. The power poles for lines 59 the houses are now being erect'ed and the ■ linesmen are following, so that the power shouid be turned P'4 within four to six weeks in tliese houses, Fire brigade function's haye •always been popular in Levin, and there is every reaspm to expect that the series' of danqes. which the" brigade _ has plaiined for the next few months will meet with the same response as in the past. The first of the series will be held in the Regent Hall on Saturday night, auxiliary lighting having been arranged to cope witln .pdsiible black=out periods. A first ffass 'dance erchestra has been engaged, and .competition dances ire to be a feature of the eyening. A- free bus from Otaki has been arranged, but out pf courtesy to the Shannon Brigade, which will be boiding a function on the same night, no free buses will be run from that town. Dances baye also been arranged for i\iay 10, June 14 and July 12.
