VARSITY STUDENTS BACK FROM AMERICA
AUCKLAND; April 8. A venture unique in the history of : Universitv lil'e^in New Zealand, was conduded today' when a party of graduates and under-graduates^ from | v'ictoria Univefsity Coliege, Wellington, arrived at Auckland by the Marine i'hoenix after a tour °f United States and Caiiada. Arriving by tbe Port Hobart at Nor- ; .'olk, Virginia, on Januarv 2a, the | students were entertained by the New Zealand Legation at Washington and ; were accorded a reception at Blairiee j Uouse by the State Department, Miss Ralph said. At. Ottawa they were en- , tertained by the Canadian Extcrnal I Affairs Department and New Zealand] Legation, being taken to their first ice , hockey match by the former Iligh i Commissioner, Iion. D. Wilson. Cominenting on tlie high fees at pri j vate colleges, she said students paid | about 2000 dollars to atteud Yale Uni versity but at the State universities in the west, the fees were comparable j with those in New Zealand. No where • did they see a system where education was free from the primary scliools t(. universities, as it was in New Zealand i The students, who returned were i Misses Ralph, Mary Land, S. Ilott. j Pamela Wilton, Burbara Gibbons, Bettv j Boyes and Mcssrs Jim Land, John Relling and Des s Burley. Misses Audrey Webster and Christine Spencer have i taken temporary positions in Vancouver and Miss Joy Osborn is doing work with the forestry services in | Canada and America.
