Danny Kaye was the funniest M.C. in Hollywood history at the swanky dinner party given recently to present Photoplay Magazine's annual awards. Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman, "The Bells of St. Mary's," and the R.-K.-O. film's writer Dudley Nichols carried off the gold medals — won by means of a Gallup popularity poll. Citations went to Lana Turner, Van Johnson, Greer Garson, and -to the movies "Love Letters,'i "Rhapsody in Blue," "Spellbound/' "Anna and the King of Siam," "Night and Day," "Leave Her to Heaven," "Mildred Pierce" and "The Green Years." Fox's musical "State Fair" won a special plaquq as the most popular musical in 1946. Danny Kaye himself received a gag award for the production of Dena Kaye, his redheaded daughter, who was born recently in New York.
