W.I. MEMBERS HONOURED
PRESENTATIONS AT AFTERNOON FUNCTION On Saturday afternoon the memb'ers of the Otaki Women's Institute met to do honour to three members, Miss A. Mills, who has gone to reside in Wellington, Miss Isobel Manz, who is to be married shortly and going to live in Hawera, and Mrs. Chittick, who has recently been married. The Anglican Hall was tastefully deeorated with bowls of hydrangeas m varying shades of blue, and vases of phlox, gypsophila and Michaelmas daisies decorated the tables. The president, Mrs. W. Taylor, welcomed members, with a special welcome to the guests of honour. A musical switch, played by Mr. Townrow made everyone in a merry mood. Miss Honor Lea sang "Beautiful fDreamer" very sweetly, and as an encore "Birth of Morn." Miss Pat' Fogden had everyone laughing with'her elocutjonary item, "Tea in the Garden,"^ and gave as an encore "Jim" to the accompaniment of more laughter. Mr. Townrow, ih his pleasing style, sang "The Gay Highway Man" and responded to two encores with "Little Irish Girl" and "Old Man River." The singing circle, under the baton of Mr. Townrow, rendered a bracket of two numbers, "Spring and Summer" and "John Peel." A grocery competition caused much laughter and deep thinking. After the serving of a dainty afternoon tea, the president spoke of the work which the guests of honour 'had done for the institute, and each was presented with a gift and posy of flowers, after. which they were accorded musical honours. - The singing of the National Anthem brought a very bright and happy afternoon to a close. ' Institute members are asked to please endeavour to be present on the afternoon of April 10 to welcome their new president.
