Personal Rev. Father J. J. Riordan -is renewi'ng acquaintances in Otaki. Mr. and Mr^r. -Carroll are Gisborne visitors to this district. The former is a. so'n of the late Sir James Carroll. Mrs. P. Harper and Miss B. D'Ath have gone to New Plymouth for Miss Meg Chamberlain's wedding on April 9. Miss B. Harper will also join them there from Auckland.The funeral of the late Mrs. Tester took place yesterday afternoon, when there was a representative attendance. Canon H. E. K. Fry conducted the service, while mariy loyely floral tributes were received, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased lady was held. Canon H. E. K. Fry will leave on Monday on holiday, expecting to retufn on April 24. The Rev. J. E. Jones will conduct the services on April 13 and 20. Harvest thanksgiving services will be held on April 13, when gifts of vegetables will be forwarded to the Anglican Home at Karori and Lower Hutt. Church Choir A choir in connection with AU. Saints' Church has been formed under the leadership of Miss Avery. Vital Statistics Vital statistics for Otaki for March were: — Births: European 9, Maori . 2. Deaths: European 3, Maori nil. Marriages: Nil. Garden Party The recent church garden party at Manakau resulted in £15 15s being handed to the funds of 3t. Andrew's Church. A s the result of the garden party at Te Horo for the repair fund the sum of £12 was raised. Girls' Life Brigade Mrs. R. W. Hillas has resigned from the leadership of the Anglican Girls' Life Brigade and Miss J. Garlick has been recommended as acting-captain. At a recent church parade the vicar hand.ed chevrons to Muriel Bartosh and Phyllis Fogden as tokens of their position now as non-commissioned officers in the brigade. Comment on Bowling Reporting on the recent match between Otaki and Petone Central, the Petone Chronicle states: — "Much enjoyment - was derived during the afternoon when Arthur ' Lightowler's rink had an eight scored against them. This was the signal for all players to abandon their games and to "congratulate" Mr". Lightowler on such a "wonderful" performance. Arthur stated that this was the first eight.everrecorded against liim, and vowed vengeance on the Otaki players who had lowered his colours. In the "library" Arthur was .the butt of all players and supporters, but stood up to the test in true sportsmanlike style."
