Younger Brother Proclaimed As Successor

Reeeived Wednesday, 9.40 a.m. ATHENS, April 1. King George II of the Hellenes died suddenly at 2.30 p.m. today of a heart attack. King George was restored to his Throne in September of last year after the people, by a majority of more than 70 per . cent., had voted for his return. After a meeting of Cabinet, Prince Paul, younger brother of the late King, was proclaimed King. He will take the oath as King tonight, and will then issue a message to the people. When General Melas, King George's aide-de-camp, reached his bedroom, the King was dying and a doctor was urgently called. It was ascertained that the King had suffered from angina pectoris (chest pain) . The Minister of National Economy, M. Georges Papandreou, said the King was reccntly complaining of pain like angina pectoris, but it was not certain whether his death was due to heart failure or thrombosis. King George's health was not good when he was in Britain before his restoration to the Throne. The new King is described as a bluff officer who had served the Greek Navy, spending the wai* years in the Middle East and South Africa.
